Supporting Deaf People 2009
Date: January 2009
The 2009 conference had two themes: d/Deaf Education, and Ethics
and Professionalism. Keynote presenters were Melanie Metzger and
Earl Fleetwood (Supporting deaf youth - Interpreters as members
of the educational team) and Peter Llewellyn-Jones and Robert G.
Lee (The 'role' of the community/public service interpreter).
It was attended by 225 participants from many different countries.
Another very busy conference with about 1200 postings in the theme
discussion areas, and many more in the social and general discussion
areas.
Feedback for the conference was excellent, and included:
"More addictive than Facebook"
"This was my first SPD and I
wanted to thank you for all the incredible work that you did pre-conference,
as well as during. WOW!! What an amazing experience. I hope to return
for more of this type of learning."
"As usual, it was awesome. Thanks
again for all your efforts. It makes us better professionals"
"I keep telling everyone how
wonderful it has been, and how unusual to have a conference director
who is so involved, so supportive to presenters."
